Science Fair will be in June

For the Science Fair your child can use the experiment we do in March and April or do another one with a friend. There will also be a Science Club prior to the Fair that your child may participate in or not. The club is not mandatory to participate in the Science Fair. PTA is sponsoring the Science Fair again this year.

You can watch the on line video and practice with the online tools. This year your child will take The Reading http://www.k12.wa.us/TeacherResourceTool2010-11/Reading/Grade5.aspx, Math http://www.k12.wa.us/TeacherResourceTool2010-11/Mathematics/Grade5.aspx , and Science http://www.k12.wa.us/TeacherResourceTool2010-11/Science/Elementary.aspx MSP tests on paper and pencil. The fifth grade students will be part of the CBA (Classroom Based Assessments) in Social Studies, Music, and Fitness.

Great Job on the State Power Points

We had a great opportunity to work on these at school and the kids did a great job sharing their state facts. Thank you to our Librarian Tech teacher for helping us learn and be so engaged in this PP.

Now on to Science Experiments.

Wk 6 Lincoln in the Dark LA Assignment

We have started exploring Lincoln in the semi-dark. We have been taking notes about the places in which our story might take place. This story can be a fantasy or realistic fiction but it must include the student in a first person role being stuck at Lincoln in the DARK. This is NOT a Halloween story. This narrative story takes students through out our school using transitional sentences and phrases to get through at least five different rooms in our school. Remember each time the students goes into another room they must be in a different paragraph.

Dialogue is introduced if they are At Lincoln in the Dark with friends. Each time a different person talks it is a different paragraph. If they use their friends or teachers in their stories they must have the person's permission. No one can die in this story.

The purpose is to entertain the listeners and readers (Your Classmates and Teacher), set up a situation that would cause you to be at Lincoln in the dark (Problem or The Stories Conflict) , move through at least five different rooms within our school (Sequence of Events) and escape the school (Solution or Conflict Resolution).

Please keep these G or PG rated. No foul language will be permitted. Remember you are writing for school.

WARNING:

This is to be READ BY Flash Light in the DARK of the Auditorium. If you do NOT write one, then you do not get to come to the reading of AT LINCOLN IN THE DARK. We will find another location for you to be writing. Due date Rough Draft Friday, October 21 and Final Draft is Friday, October 28th.

Helpful Hints:

FYI:Students found that if the story was typed they could read it better by flashlight. It does not need to be typed if you write dark enough and clear enough.

2011-2012 School Year has got underway.

As hoped the MVSD website is up and running but we have not been told how to use it as of yet. So I am back to My old blog that works for now.

Today we have the updated Spelling lists for this month as well as the HWC for September and October on line. They are google docs that can be opened from any computer. They are configured slightly differently than the ones that were sent home but all the info is there. I hope this helps people that tend to lose their papers.

Thank you for helping your child reach their full potential in our class by using the Homework Calendars and having your child be aware of the due dates. Those that turned their homework in on time were greatly appreciated.

All Grades Cut off Friday, June 3rd

All extra credit and grades are cut off June 3rd. We will be sharing our Science Experiment Boards and the results of our at home experiments with the class on Monday, June 6th.

We will set up in the auditorium on Tuesday, June 7th.

June 8th we will be Math MAP testing in the AM.
The PM of June 8th we will be participating the school wide Science Fair.
More info to come from PTA. We do not know the details yet.
